On 15-17 March, the 30th International Conference of Hospitallers of the Sovereign Order of Malta and the meeting of the heads of the Maltese Relief Services (OMRO) in Central and Eastern Europe took place in Krakow.<\/p>\n
Krakow was chosen to emphasise the proximity to the war-affected Ukrainian population and to draw attention to the enormous humanitarian efforts being made by all structures of the Order of Malta, and especially those on the border with Ukraine, to help refugees, displaced persons and the wounded.<\/p>\n
The meetings, with the participation of His Most Eminent Highness the Prince and Grand Master of the Order Fra\u2019 John Dunlap, were attended by the Counsellor of the Embassy Mr. Andriy Khanas.<\/p>\n
Special attention was focused on Ukraine. In particular, a volunteer of the Malteser Relief Service office of Mariupol spoke movingly about the horrors of the war since the full-scale invasion and her own experience as a rescuer, recalling her sense of helplessness in the face of the loss of life.<\/p>\n
The work of the Order of Malta in Ukraine was mentioned in the context of the most important commitment undertaken by the Order since the Second World War.<\/p>\n
With a special prayer, with the participation of the leadership of the Order of Malta, the participants honoured the memory of the seven volunteers of the Maltese Relief Service of Ukraine who died defending their homeland.<\/p>\n
