On the second day of the Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC2025) in Rome, Pavlo Titko, Head of Malteser Relief Service of Ukraine \u2013 the Order of Malta\u2019s relief corps in the country \u2013 spoke in the panel dedicated to inclusion and social cohesion.<\/p>\n<p>The session was opened by Alessandra Locatelli, Italian Minister for Disabilities, and Iryna Postolovska, Ukraine\u2019s Deputy Minister of Social Policy for European Integration. They are about to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for joint initiatives aimed at supporting adolescents, the social and work reintegration of veterans, and the protection of people with disabilities during crises and emergencies.<\/p>\n<p>The Head of Malteser Relief Service of Ukraine described the psychological consequences of the conflict on children, and the contribution of the Order of Malta \u2013 together with all its entities \u2013 in addressing the issue. According to national data, 75% of Ukrainian children show symptoms of post-traumatic stress, such as anxiety, depression, aggression, isolation, silence. One in five suffers from nightmares or sleep disorders; one in ten rejects school or social interaction. \u201cInvesting in their mental health,\u201d Titko emphasized, \u201cdoes not only mean helping them survive the war, but also helps the whole society to heal and recover.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>From the start of 2025 the Ukrainian government launched a new psycho-social assistance package, featuring 124 specialized centres, over 5,000 territorial outpatient clinics, and multidisciplinary mobile teams. Within this framework, the Order of Malta has developed specific programs to provide individual, family, and group psychological support in various centres across the country.
