On 5th of April 2024 – Ambassador of the Sovereign Order of Malta to Ukraine Mr. Antonio Gazzanti Pugliese di Cotrone met with Rector of the Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv Prof. Volodymyr Bugrov.
During the meeting, the Ambassador got acquainted with the activities of the University, with which the diplomatic mission of the Order of Malta has a long-standing friendly relations.
Ambassador Gazzanti Pugliese di Cotrone noted that “the visit to the University is a good opportunity to renew the cooperation. It is a great honour for me to be here. The moral and cultural strength of the students at Taras Shevchenko University is now manifesting itself in times of war. On behalf of the Sovereign Order of Malta, I assure you that the Order will always support Ukraine, because we are well aware of who is the aggressor and who is the victim. Thanks to our neutrality, we can carry out a humanitarian mission and mediate in many processes“.
For his part, the Rector of the Kyiv National University suggested to join forces in the field of scientific and educational diplomacy, as well as in other projects.
Mr. Volodymyr Buhrov invited to organise a lecture about the Order for the university students, invitation which Mr. Ambassador readily accepted.
The parties agreed to intensify bilateral relations.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Andriy Khanas, Counsellor of the Embassy, Mrs. Ksenia Smyrnova, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs (International Cooperation) of the Kyiv National University, and Mr. Roman Petiur, Head of the International Relations Department, of Kyiv National University.
